How to pronounce Uruz: ‘Oo-rooz’

The translation of Uruz is ‘Auroch’, the wild bison that used to roam ancient Europe. The Auroch is the opposite to what cattle is; the undomesticated wild and martial side of the animal. This fierce ox was admired for its raw power and energy. As such Uruz is the rune connected to physical strength (although it's likely that both spiritual and emotional strength are also emphasised too).
It's been said that in ancient Germany an initiation rite required adolescent males to slay an Auroch, thus symbolising a massive change and growth in their lives. As such, this rune represents a dramatic change that needs to be met without flinching. In our modern world this could mean pursuing your dream, manifesting the strength to make that dream a reality.

As previously discussed in Fehu, I personally think that using the runes as a goal setting/achieving mechanism is a great way to include them in your life. This does not mean there aren't other ways to use and meditate on the runes, this is just my personal method.
To use Uruz you would set a goal, one centred around strength. This could be a physical goal, such as physical training, or it could be a mental/spiritual one such as your own personal growth. I use Uruz in my martial arts training, as seeing the rune reminds me to strive for physical strength, keeping my mind focussed on my training [I have a tattoo of Uruz].
Reversed Uruz would be used in those times where you feel weak, lacking in confidence or motivation. You would set the goal based on that which you are struggling with, and use the Rune as a reminder to keep focussed and devoted. As strength only comes from hard work and dedication, and the success from this hard work is well paid off in the end.
